Quite a number of people enjoy candle making at home, not just as a hobby, but as a source of income, too. But if you want the end product to be successful, there are some principles to be complied with, whether you choose candle making at home to be a hobby or a business. The first thing you need to do is gather the required ingredients and tools, and for items you don’t have, the same can be purchased from any craft store. The most important item needed is the wax, besides other tools and ingredients like a double boiler, thermometer, moulds, dye, scented oil, a whisk and wicks. The different kinds of wax available for purchase are beeswax, soy wax, paraffin wax, and so on. However, apart from the paraffin wax which is most commonly used in candle making, you could go green and save the environment by opting for beeswax, or soy wax. To get started, take your double boiler and heat the wax. Do make sure that the temperature when melting the wax does not cross 180° Fahrenheit. However, the wax will have to be entirely liquefied when heated, which is very important. After it has reached this liquid state, select the dye you want and mix it with the wax using the whisk. When you’re happy with the color of your wax, add the desired amount of scented oil and once again, use the whisk to mix it up so that the scent and color are distributed evenly. Use a thermometer to check the temperature of the wax after reducing it to 150°. Then take your candle moulds and pour the hot wax into them very carefully after reducing the temperature. Now, carefully place the wicks in the center of each mould with wax. Keep the moulds aside for a minimum of five hours to allow the candles to cool down completely, and then remove them. Now that you’ve discovered this easy process of candle making at home, you are in a good position to create and make your own handmade candles you desire.
